Commander Michael Todd Mazurek, MD
February 9, 1968 - November 7, 2009
Commander Mazurek, who deployed with the Marines to Fallujah, Iraq in 2004, served with distinction with Bravo Surgical Company and was decorated for his selfless actions that often occurred under fire. He returned to Naval Medical Center, San Diego in 2005, and in 2009, was selected as Orthopaedic Residency Program Director.
An outstanding orthopaedic educator, Commander Mazurek was twice awarded the David J. Czertak Memorial Teaching Award, was the recipient of large research grants and authored many articles, ranging from basic to clinical science. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation (2 awards), and Expert Rifle and Pistol Marksmanship Medals.
Commander Mazurek is survived by his wife Lisa, and sons Adam, Dylan and Spencer, ages 8 years, 3 years, and 8 months, respectively.

LTC Russell A. Davidson
May 8, 1969 - May 12, 2009
LTC Davidson was a 1987 graduate of the Porter-Gaud School located in Charleston, South Carolina, a 1991 graduate of the United States Military Academy, and a 1995 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina. He served his internship from 1995-1996 at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center (DDEAMC). Following his internship, he became a General Medical Officer at Fort Sill, Oklahoma from 1996-1998. After the completion of this assignment, he returned to DDEAMC to complete the Orthopedic Surgery Residency in 2002, followed by a Spine Surgery Fellowship at Twin Cities Spine Center, Minneapolis, MN.
When duty called in August 2003, LTC Davidson deployed with the 936th Forward Surgical Team (FST) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. After the completion of his deployment, he returned to DDEAMC as the Chief of Spine Surgery and in 2006 became Director of the Orthopedic Residency Program. He was a dedicated orthopaedic instructor, and researcher.
His military awards and merits include: two Meritorious Service Medals, an Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, an Army Service Ribbon, Over Seas Ribbon, and an Air Assault Badge.
In addition to his loving wife Leigh Ann, LTC Davidson is survived by his daughters, Margaret Lynn Davidson and Audrey Claire Davidson; and his parents, James Thomas Davidson and Annelle Carlton.
