Friends of SOMOS
Never in our history have wounded warriors survived the battlefield with the extent of injuries that are seen today. The conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan have taken a toll on our soldiers.
To date, there have been over 15,000 soldiers, airmen, marines and sailors evacuated from the combat zone to military hospitals. Extremity wounds are prevalent in over 80% of all evacuated service members; 26% of the patients have fractures, 80% of which are open fractures. Many wounded warriors have injuries on multiple extremities. The vast majority of these warriors’ injuries require extensive orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation.
It is our members who brave the combat fields to perform the delicate and often extensive surgeries to preserve life and limb of our wounded combatants. Our brave, young warriors deserve, and should expect no less than, the best care our country has available. We need your assistance. By contributing to Friends of SOMOS, you’ll be providing funds to train and educate our military orthopaedic surgeons to better respond in the field and restore our wounded warriors’ bodies to the best condition that is medically possible.
