COL Brian Allgood Memorial Leadership Fund

COL Allgood served his country as an Orthopaedic surgeon, a leader of character and a champion for the wounded warrior. He was killed in combat in Iraq on January 20, 2007. In his name and memory, SOMOS established the COL Brian Allgood Memorial Leadership Award in 2007. This award will be presented annually for leadership excellence in military Orthopaedic surgery. Monetary donations can be made to the COL Brian Allgood Memorial Leadership Award.

Meeting Assistance Fund

Drastic changes in the Federal Budget continue to erode the already limited Military support for CME and meeting attendance.  Consequently, a significant number of our active duty colleagues are unable to obtain the resources necessary to attend the annual SOMOS meeting. This has created a very difficult situation, whereby many of our active duty partners find themselves unable to participate in what is arguably the most relevant military medical meeting of the year for the active duty orthopedic surgeon. 

Thanks to initiatives like this one, SOMOS has been able to fund over 100 active duty military surgeons to attend the SOMOS meeting each year – just under half our total meeting attendance. Please help us keep this going!

Friends of SOMOS

The Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting serves as the premier forum for exchange of critical medical information to facilitate care of our country’s wounded warriors but recent DoD funding cuts have made attendance a financial hardship for our military orthopaedic brethren. Meetings like the SOMOS Annual Meeting are critical to the shared knowledge and advanced patient care that our wounded warriors need to receive from our military surgeons.
