Resident Life

What is great about this program?
The breadth of experience that residents undergo. Level 1 Trauma in two different cities, 20 weeks of hand and upper extremity surgery, adult reconstruction from three different hospitals, and a robust orthopedic sports surgery experience treating high level elite athletes are just a brief overview of some of the training that residents at Naval Medical Center San Diego can expect to have.

Why military orthopaedics?
The patient population. No were else will you find so many eager patients actively engaged in their recovery, wanted to get back to their jobs. We routinely treat Marine Recruits and Navy SEALs, as well as retirees and dependents.

What is good about this city?
There is always good weather, the local airport has great connections to many national and international destinations, and there are so many things to do, eat, and drink.

What to do while visiting our city?
Where to start. The San Diego area is a popular tourist destination with its own Major League Baseball Team, the San Diego Padres, as well as numerous attractions and things to do. Activities range from renting Jet Skis in Mission Bay, SeaWorld, the Aquarium, to a world-renowned Zoo and Disneyland. Playing golf at Torrey Pines Golf Course, hiking, skiing at Big Bear, and surfing include some of the outdoor activities. California burritos and local breweries with more IPA’s than you can count. There is always something going on, something to eat, or somewhere to go.
